Kiosk mode in our desktop app: it takes over the screen, pulls focus back the moment another app takes it, blocks copy and paste, and refuses to start with a second monitor connected. Browser mode blocks nothing, but the session is recorded and leaving the tab is flagged.

No. Detectors are unreliable and accuse real students. You get the session itself instead: the work as it was written, timestamped flags, and a recording if you turned one on.

macOS reserves a few shortcuts, including Cmd-Tab, that no app can intercept. Kiosk mode and focus snap-back are what keep the exam in front of the student. On Windows the app intercepts Alt-Tab and the Windows key directly, and every attempt is recorded for you.

Screen only, never webcam or microphone. Off unless you turn it on for an assessment, and students see notice before it starts.

You decide, per assignment: warn the student, log a flag, or end the exam and collect the work.

At rest, yes: AES-256, one key per school, held in a dedicated key service. Every access to a school's key is written to a school-named log nobody at AssignHQ can edit or erase, and the school's own administrators can read it. How the vault works

Our terms are built to align with FERPA and COPPA and carry the education-records commitments schools ask for. Students under 13 are identified by name only through a school plan whose authorization is on record; Free holds no student identity, so it works at any grade. Assignments and browser-monitored work run on Chromebooks. Full kiosk lockdown needs the desktop app, which runs on Mac and Windows. For Chromebooks, use Safe Exam Browser.
